How to Get Rid of Pimples in the Armpit

Armpit pimples are one of the most ignored
types of pimples that are also very difficult to get rid of. Many men and women
get pimples in the underarm area usually due to lack of hygiene. It does not
help that one sweats heavily in this region. Improper shaving can sometimes
cause razor bumps or armpit bumps (folliculitis) which can be mistaken for
pimples. In any case, armpit pimples can be very painful and the friction
caused by clothing often aggravates the problem.

Let us study some ways to get rid of a pimple under the armpit.

Armpit bumps: Acne or folliculitis?

Acne or pimples in the armpit is characterized by a blister, pus, pain, and redness. Armpit folliculitis, on the other hand, is also quite similar to a pimple but is typically smaller. Also, the causes of the two conditions are different in that; the pimple occurs due to bacteria, hormonal issues, the friction of clothing and sweat whereas folliculitis occurs due to shaving when the razor leaves behind part of the hair that grows back into the skin and together with bacteria causes a bump or pus-filled papule.

In both cases, there may be some pain, redness, pus, and cyst formation.

Home remedies to get rid of pimples in the armpit

Wash and clean the armpit several times a day. Use a mild cleanser or a face wash. You can also use antibacterial soap to clean the area. Since armpits tend to get sweaty, bacteria are present there. So regular cleaning of armpits is a must to remove the sweat and prevent acne. Use warm water to wash the skin and also reduce the pain.

From time to time, exfoliate the skin in the armpits. Use a natural exfoliating scrub such as baking soda, sugar or salt mixed with some water, olive oil or castor oil. Gently scrub the throbbing pimple with the scrub. Wash off after a few minutes using warm water and a mild cleanser. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and debris that clogs the skin’s pores leading to pimples. It also promotes the growth of new and healthier skin cells. Never scrub too harshly as that can irritate the existing pimple in armpits.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is an excellent remedy for armpit acne as it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Dilute a required amount of tea tree oil with coconut oil and apply it to the painful pimple in the armpit. Make sure you test the oil on a small area of your skin first to ensure that you aren’t allergic to the tea tree oil. Otherwise, it can aggravate the problem and increase the pain. Once you are sure you can tolerate tea tree oil, use it regularly to avoid armpit pimples and pimples on the back. This remedy also works on armpit abscess and armpit folliculitis. You can also use tea tree oil-based body wash to prevent acne in both areas.

Apple cider vinegar

Dip a clean cotton ball in organic apple cider vinegar and apply it to the armpit acne. Let it air dry. Apple cider vinegar has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that are useful in treating abscess, pimples, folliculitis, and many other skin problems. Re-apply the vinegar several times to the pimple. This remedy will dry out the pimple and speed up healing. It is also recommended that you drink apple cider vinegar to fight inflammation from the inside.

Lemon juice

Another effective remedy to treat an
inflamed armpit lump or pimple is lemon juice. Lemon juice is antibacterial and
it also has skin lightening properties. This means that aside from fighting
bacteria, lemon juice will prevent scarring and lighten the armpits. To use
this remedy, simply rub some lemon juice two to three times a week on the armpit
pimple. Shower off after 30 minutes. Do not use lemon juice on open abscess,
cuts, or wounds.

Take two pills of curcumin extract or
turmeric to fight armpit cysts. You can also take a heaped teaspoon of organic
turmeric powder in some warm water or milk to fight inflammation. Within a few
days, the cystic acne in armpit will subside and you will get immediate relief
from the pain.

Avoid toxic deodorants

Aluminum-based deodorants can also cause acne in the armpits as these toxic metals are absorbed by the skin. So do avoid their use. You can use natural, organic deodorants or make one at home using coconut oil or shea butter mixed with few drops of your favorite essential oil.

Acne and zits indicate a toxic overload in the lymph nodes. To detoxify, go on a water-only or juice-only fast for a day. During the fast, drink clear liquids only. Drink plenty of water and green tea. Before bedtime, take some lemon juice and olive oil which will help remove toxins from the kidneys. Once the fasting period is over, start eating clean. This means avoiding packaged foods, refined goods etc and eating only fresh organic fruits and vegetables. Do this fast at least once a month to prevent armpit pimples permanently.

Make dietary changes

If you have a tendency to develop armpit acne, then you need to make certain dietary changes. You can try to limit your intake of wheat, whey, dairy, corn and corn products, sugar, oats, and peanuts. Use dairy substitutes like almond milk, coconut milk, or rice milk. Eat organic as far as possible to limit chemicals and preservatives in the body. Within a few months, you will notice clearer skin and increased energy levels.

Drink green juices

Make green juices a part of your daily diet. Juice together a bunch of kale, some cucumbers, a few apples, cilantro, lime juice, and a dash of honey. Drink this fresh juice every day to provide vital nutrients to the body and fight inflammation from the inside.

Change your clothes frequently

Armpit pimples can occur due to unhygienic conditions. If you stay in sweaty gym clothes for too long, you are inviting armpit acne. So change your sweaty workout clothes immediately. If you sweat heavily throughout the day, then you must bathe frequently and wear clean clothes, especially during the summer months. Use cotton clothing that is loose and does not abrade the skin. Avoid tight-fitting synthetic clothes as far as possible.
